How do I ask my boss for an extra vacation day?
Friday, December 25th, 2009quortnie11 asked:
I started my job 4 months ago and I have only accrued 4 vacation days. I was planning on going away for a week before I started. But they needed me to start earlier and the person that hired me said if I started early, I could just take my vacation at a later time. Now that I have asked my boss for 5 days off, she said “no leave without pay”. I think since its one more day, she could bend the rules (she is a senior manager). Another co-worker said she took off a day without pay in her first month of being here, approved by her manager. How can I phrase my question for the extra day, so she will say yes?

Do my vacation days count if the office is closed due to weather?
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009ACE Tx asked:
I recently gave my notice at my job, and are taking my unused days as personal days. When I come back, I am supposed to train my replacement. But, I am in Texas, and there is a potential hurricane coming, and they may be closing the office on the days that I am taking off. Does this mean that they still count as vacation days, although the office is closed?
I get paid regardless, but if I am using my vacation day tomorrow, and the office is closed anyway, shouldn’t I still have that vacation day to use?

How long should i work before taking vacation days off?

Hey everyone. I’ve been working at my job for a month and at my job i slowly accumulate vacation time. I havent taken any vacation days off. How long should i wait before i take a few days off?? What would be the proper etiquette in this situation? It’s a white collar job if that matters.

If I resign a job with enough vacation to last until next year, can I get paid for vacation next year also?
Saturday, September 30th, 2006craigwenger asked:
I have about 3 weeks of vacation time left at my current job. I am planning to resign such that December 12, 2008 is my last day, and take vacation until the end of the year. Obviously I will get paid until December 31, 2008. But since I have some leftover days, could I technically be considered an employee on January 1, 2009, at which point I could take my 3 weeks of vacation time for 2009, and get paid for those extra 3 weeks?

I assume it depends on the company and I will have to ask payroll, but is it typical to allow that?
